The Ace Rewards New Member Sign-Up at POS provides a way for retailers to immediately sign up a new Ace Rewards customer at POS. Cashiers simply scan the new Ace Rewards card and then enter the customer’s home phone number. This information will be verified at a 3rd party provider and any matches will be returned to a new window displaying the customer data found. This feature requires a broadband connection and a VPN tunnel to Ace.
A check is made upon initial entry to POS to verify the VPN tunnel is connected. If no VPN connection is detected, the new software is disabled and the POS window will not appear when the new Ace Reward card is scanned. In this instance, the cashier must give the customer a paper application to be filled out. Upon detection that the VPN has been re-established, the cashier will need to login again to POS to restart the service. If the VPN is detected, the phone number entry box will appear to complete the transaction.
If the home phone number entered does not return a match, the cashier will need to give the customer a paper application to complete the process. If the entered home phone number is matched and data returned is incorrect, the cashier can make the necessary corrections before completing the transaction.
Note: A cashier can cancel customer registration by pressing the ESC key. The cashier will then have to clear the transaction or the receipt will print the new Ace Rewards card number that was just cancelled.
In order to take advantage of this application, do the following:
Set up the following options in Options Configuration.
8871 - Ace Rewards New Customer Signup enabled. Set this option to Yes if you are participating in the Ace Rewards New Customer Signup.
8872 - Set this option to Yes to have POS automatically launch the Ace Rewards Website when a ’new’ Ace Rewards ID is entered in POS. Otherwise set to No. Option M (Manual) is not currently available. Note: An Ace Rewards ID is considered ’new’ when the ID # is not assigned to any customer in Customer Maintenance. Therefore, they are a customer who is joining the Ace Rewards program in your store, or they are already an Ace Rewards customer at another Ace retailer.
8879 - Ace approved VPN IP address. It is the IP address for the Ace approved VPN connection. You won't need to change the information for this option, unless instructed by Ace at some time in the future.
Test the VPN.
From Network Access at the Function prompt, type ACEUTL and press Enter.
Under Purchase Order Transmission Settings, change the Transmission Type from A to S, and press Change.
When the warning displays, type a Y and press Enter to test the connection. If the test is successful, you have completed the setup process. If the test is not successful, clear out the address just below the A and press Change. Then retry the test. If it still doesn’t work, contact your Local Platform Specialist (LPS) by calling (800) 322-3077.
