Restricted Use UPC Numeric Prefix

(ID# 1748) This option applies if your users are allowed to add 'restricted use' UPCs for items in Inventory Maintenance. Security bit 1062 "Ability to generate 'restricted use' UPCs in Maintain UPC Codes" controls the ability to add 'restricted use' UPCs.

The 'restricted use' UPC generation feature was originally designed to generate UPC codes for items which have no manufacturer UPC and are used only within the store's environment. These UPC codes are in the 400000000000 number range which doesn't conflict with UPCs generated by manufacturers.

When this option is not blank the 'restricted use' UPCs created in Inventory Maintenance will begin with the 6 digits entered in this option instead of 400000. For example, if the value entered in this option is 612811, the 'restricted use' UPCs will be added with a value between 612811000001 and 612811999999.

If less than six digits are entered, the system will right justify the value and pad it with leading zeros to the left before adding the UPC. For example, if the value entered in this option is 61281, the 'restricted use' UPC generation program will create UPCs between 061281000001 and 061281999999.
