Voiding a Sale When You've Tendered a Gift Card

(Do it Best Corp., True Value, and In-Store Gift Card users only. Gift Cards are not allowed in Offline POS.)

Use the following procedure if you have already tendered a Gift Card, but now you need to void the transaction. This could happen if the customer partially pays with a gift card, and after processing it you discover the customer can't pay for the remaining amount due (forgot their money, credit card was declined, etc.).

  1. From the POS Totals screen, press Void (F10).

  2. When prompted to refund the gift card, select Yes.

  3. In the Void Redemption dialog box, swipe the card. Then press OK.

In a moment, the funds are returned to the Gift Card.

If you've tendered multiple gift cards from the customer, you must void each gift card redemption separately. If you try to submit a single void redemption (for example, you try to void $35, because the customer gave you one card for $20 and another for $15), the void will be declined because the original redemptions were on two cards for two different amounts.

  1. Once you have voided all necessary gift card redemptions, you can void the POS transaction.

The reasons you must void the redemptions before you void the sale are:

      • Void Redemption is only available at the end of a transaction.

      • When creating a void redemption, in addition to the card number and void redemption amount, one of the pieces of information that is passed to the processor is the original transaction number. POS only has that number while in the original transaction; therefore, if the transaction is voided before the void redemption has been processed, the transaction number is lost.
