User Codes are set up on the Codes tab of Inventory Maintenance. There are five groups of User Codes, each with four alphanumeric positions available. Each of the four positions is independent of the other positions. For example, A _ _ _ is not the same as _ A _ _. The five groups of User Codes are labeled User Codes, Expanded Codes A, Expanded Codes B, Expanded Codes C, and Expanded Codes D.
The purpose of User Codes is to allow you to include or exclude items on reports. For example, you may want to assign special codes for the following types of items: special order, turn rate high or low, gross margin high or low, or restricted age items.
There are two methods for setting up User Codes. You can use one or both methods. The topics in this book describe the first method.
You can have your own user code descriptions to tell what each code means, and a user-defined choice list for each code. Once you have set up these descriptions and/or choice lists, you can see the code description and choices in Inventory Maintenance.
You can simply enter user codes on items, but not define a description or choice list for them in the Eagle system. With this method, you might want to keep a written list of what your user codes mean, since you are not storing this information in Eagle.
