Flag new UPC as the only Primary UPC?

(ID# 8948) This Inventory option in Options Configuration automates the maintenance of the Primary UPC field in Maintain UPC Codes. This option applies to all methods of adding UPCs. The importance of the Primary UPC field is that the system uses it to determine which UPC to use for an item with multiple UPCs. This applies to situations where a single UPC is needed for labels, purchase orders being transmitted (EDI), printing an item's UPC on POS transactions (options 5436 thru 5440), and the UPC column in viewers such as the Inventory Viewer.

Yes = In Maintain UPC Codes, the system marks the last UPC added as the only primary UPC for the item. This means that 1) The new UPC is marked as the Primary UPC for that item, and 2) All other UPCs for that item have their Primary UPC field set to No.

No = The system does not automatically set the Primary UPC field in Maintain UPC Codes. You manually maintain the Primary UPC field. Also see note 4 below.

Notes:

1. When this option is set to Yes, the Primary field for adding a New UPC (at the top of the Maintain UPC Codes screen) defaults to Yes, and adding the UPC with Primary set to Yes also resets any existing Primary UPCs to no longer be primary.

2. When this option is set to Yes, you can change the Primary flag on an existing UPC, but the system only allows one UPC to be Primary. Therefore, as you change the UPC to primary, you must also change the Primary flag on any other UPC to No. Additionally, deleting the UPC marked as the Primary UPC does not set one of the other UPCs for that item to Yes.

3. When this option is set to Yes, adding a package UPC (package quantity > 1) will not be marked as the Primary UPC.

4. When option 3240 "Do Telecomm applications update the Primary UPC flag?"" is set to Yes, this option (8948) doesn't apply. Function EUU sets the Primary UPC field based upon the supplier's recommendation per the UPC data they are supplying. When Option 3240 is set to No, option 8948 does apply; therefore, a UPC added by function EUU is set as the Primary UPC and all others are set to not primary.
