Price Override Policy used in POS
(ID# 1626) “Price override policy used
in Point of Sale” gives you an alternative method for controlling a clerk’s
flexibility when overriding an item’s price in POS. This option must be
set to Yes by an Epicor representative. To learn more, contact your Epicor
representative to arrange a review with a senior business consultant.
If
your business profile is such that using promotion prices is not always
practical, then this method may be a good fit for you.
Price
overrides are done in POS using Ctrl D; Ctrl P; Ctrl O; Pricing codes
in Price field; or manually typing in price. Option
1626 defaults to today’s method “Minimum GP%” where option 5495 "Minimum
GP% when price and/or cost manually entered” is used to require a minimum
GP% to be met or exceeded before allowing the price override without a
manager's approval. Manager override bit 654 "(MO) Allow GP% less
than minimum when cost or price manually entered" controls the clerk’s
ability to do a price override that does not meet the minimum required
GP%.
If
you use option 5495 "Minimum GP% when price and/or cost manually
entered to enforce a minimum GP%" and too many manager overrides
are necessary due to manual entry of final markdown prices that are close/at/or
below cost rendering a low or negative GP%, then the new method 2 ‘Maximum
$’s Off’ may be a good solution for you. The maximum $'s off policy is
aimed at keeping lower priced items (on final markdowns) from requiring
unnecessary manager overrides and higher priced items from being discounted
too much (if clerk mistakenly entered the wrong sku when posting a price
override).
When
Option 1626 "Price override policy used in Point of Sale" is
set to Maximum $’s Off, the price override will be allowed if the $'s
off the normal selling price does not exceed one of two Maximum $'s off. First, you
will decide on and enter the percentage off in option 1627 “Discount %
threshold which determines the Maximum $'s off", which is the threshold
discount % that determines which of the 2 'Maximum $'s off' options the
actual $'s off is compared to.
When
the actual discount % off is within the threshold discount % entered in
option 1627, the actual $'s off must be within the maximum $'s off entered
in option 1628 "Maximum $'s off when the discount % is within the
threshold".
When the actual discount % off is over the threshold discount %, the actual
$'s off must be within the maximum $'s off entered in option 1629 "Maximum
$'s off when the discount % is over the threshold".
When the $'s off is not within the maximum $'s off allowed for the discount
% then a manager override will be required to continue with that price
override. The manager must have security bit 1117 "(MO) Allow price
override if maximum $'s off exceeded”.
Hint: The amount in option 1628 should be higher than
the amount in option 1629.
- If
the corresponding $’s off option is blank, the system will only use
the threshold discount % to determine if a manager override is required.
- When
option 1626 is set to 1, option 5495 and bit 654 also control the
ability to manually override cost.
- When
option 1626 is set to 2, use option 5159 and bit 543 to control the
ability to manually override cost.
Examples:
1627 “Discount
% threshold which determines the Maximum $'s off” – set to 10%
1628
"Maximum $'s off when the discount % is within the threshold"
– set to $75
1629
"Maximum $'s off when the discount % is over the threshold"
– set to $20
Example
1: Mower has price of 1000.00 and clerk sells it for 900.00
- Compute the % discount
- which is 10%
- Compute the $’s off
– which is $100
- Compare the $100.00
off to the maximum dollars off of $75 in option 1628 and since it
is greater the system will require a manager override.
At
or under the max % and over the max dollars does require
a manager approval.
Example
2: Mower
has price of 1000.00 and clerk sells it for 950.00
- Compute the % discount
- which is 5%
- Compute the $’s off
– which is $50
- Compare the $50.00 off
to the maximum dollars off of $75 in option 1628 and since it is less
the system will not require a manager override.
Under
the Max % and under the Maximum Dollars does
not
require a manager approval.
Example
3: Mixed
paint on clearance - priced at 50.00 and clerk sells for 35.00
- Compute the % discount
which is 30%
- Compute the $’s off
– which is $15
- Compare the $15.00 off
to the maximum dollars off of $20 in option 1629 and since it is less
the system will not require a manager override.

Over Max %
and under the Maximum Dollars does
not require a manager approval.
