Setting Up Customer Account Search by Any Phone Number

You can set up your system so that Customer lookup in any application that has the standard Customer drop-down can find a customer by any phone number set up on their account. This includes the primary phone number, alternate phone number, and all phone numbers entered on Customer Contacts. Note to Job users: The phone numbers used for the lookup are only for customer Job 0. All other Job numbers are skipped.

  1. Set option 3517 “Allow enhanced name(;) and phone number(-) lookup in the Customer or Job” to Yes.

  2. Set option 3519 “Include the alternate phone number in wildcard phone lookup (-)? ” to C or Y.

  3. You must run the A/R Aging Report (RAG) with update option "K" frequently, because it generates the information needed to do a phone number search.

  4. To execute a phone number search, prefix the number with a dash/minus (-). For example, if this option is set to N, entering -1234 displays all customers with 1234 anywhere in the main phone number. If this option is set to "Y" then -1234 displays all customers with 1234 anywhere in the main phone number or alternate phone number. If this option is set to "C" then -1234 will show all customers with 1234 anywhere in the main phone number, alternate phone number or phone numbers on the MCR Contacts tab.

Note: Also see related option 3516 “Include lookup by email addresses in customer" which allows you to enter an @ (the "at" sign) followed by the first characters of the customer’s email address to find the customer.
