Discounting an Item

The procedure below is affected by:

• to whom you have assigned security bits 533"(MO)Allow trade disc over Option's Maximum for line items or entire transaction." This bit allows the clerk to use the Disc key in POS to give a line-item discount or trade discount greater than the maximum specified in option 5486 "Trade discount percentage threshold (line items and entire trx"). If a clerk does not have this bit (533), a manager's override is required for a discount greater than the amount specified in option 5486.
  
   , 565Ability to override the price in POS using the Disc, Promo, or Control-O keys or by manually entering a different price. This bit works with 566.
  
  With both bits 565 & 566, the clerk can change an item price. With bit 565 only, the clerk must obtain a manager override.
  
  (Note: If you want to allow the clerk to use the Disc, Promo, and Control-O keys, but don't want to allow manually changing the price, set option 5168 to 2 and use security bit 817 to No.), and 566(MO) With both bits 565 & 566, the clerk can change an item price. With bit 565 only, the clerk must obtain a manager override.
  
  If a clerk doesn't have bit 565, then bit 566 has no effect--the clerk cannot override the price.

  When this option is set to 1, these bits control the ability to change an item's price by manually typing it in, or by using Ctrl D (Discount), Ctrl P (Promo), or by using Ctrl-O.
  
  When this option is set to 2, these bits control the ability to change an item's price by all of these methods except for manually typing in a different price. and 5486"Trade discount percentage threshold (line items and entire transaction)." A clerk with security bit 533 set to No must get a manager override to give a discount greater than this amount. in Options Configuration

1. In the POS window, enter the SKU and quantity you want to discount.

2. Click Discount.

3. In the Discount Percent, Discount Price, or Discount Amount box, type a percent off retail, new retail price, or discount off retail amount.

4. Press enter.

Tip

You can prevent sales tax from being calculated on to this line item by clicking No Tax instead of Enter.
