You may already be familiar with the classic Epicor Eagle™ General Ledger (G/L) application. You know how to use the various functions and reports, including Function GGMU (General Journal Transaction Processing), Function GSMU (Select and Print Financial Statements), and Report RGTR (Print Trial Balance). This topic compares the classic General Ledger application to the Epicor Eagle™ General Ledger for Windows application so that you can understand the similarities and differences between the two.
Where is the Main Menu? With the classic General Ledger application, if you want to display an unposted journal transaction, you type GGMU at the Main Menu and press the Enter key.
With the General Ledger for Windows application, the Main Menu has been replaced by the Eagle Browser. From the Browser window you can display a journal transaction using either of the following methods:
In the list in the left pane, click Applications. Then from the list in the right pane, click General Ledger Menu. Under Daily Procedures, click General Journal Transactions.
In the top pane, in the Launch box, type GGMU and press Enter.
The Browser is very similar to the Main Menu. If you know the acronym for the window you want to display (such as GGMU for General Journal Transaction Processing), type the acronym in the Launch box and press Enter.
If you don't know the acronym, click Applications from the list in the left pane, then click an applications category from the list in the right pane, and then click the name of the window you want to display.
You can also click the arrow to the right of the Launch box to display a list of recently accessed windows. From this list, you can click one of the choices to display the window.
With the classic General Ledger application, if you want to add a journal transaction, you must know the account number. With General Ledger for Windows, you can click on a drop-down list to find the account number you need.
With the classic General Ledger application, if you want to look up a journal transaction and you know the General Ledger account number, you type the account number and press Enter, and then you press Next Item until you find the right transaction for that account number. If you don't know the account number, you repeatedly press the Next Item key until you find the correct transaction. In either case, you can only view one transaction at a time. And, depending upon whether you want to modify or delete a transaction, you must enter either the "change mode" or "delete mode" to do so.
With the General Ledger for Windows application, you simply use the drop-down list to pick the appropriate User Code (the person or automated report that entered the transaction) and press ENTER, and all the transactions with that User Code display in a grid view, where you can both modify and delete transactions. Or, you can use the standard view to display a single transaction at a time. In the standard view, you can add a new transaction or scroll through existing transactions.
Use the following table to map the classic General Ledger function to General Ledger for Windows. In the first column you'll find the classic General Ledger function or report name and acronym. In the second column is the General Ledger for Windows name and acronym. This is the acronym you type in the Launch box to display the window.
Some windows in General Ledger for Windows are accessed after you display a main General Ledger window, such as the Chart of Accounts window (GCMU). For example, to display the Budget Code Maintenance (GBCM) window, first display the Chart of Accounts window, then click the Go To button on the tool bar (or from the Action menu), and then select Budget Maintenance (GBUM). From there, click the GoTo button on the tool bar (or from the Action menu), and then select Budget Code Maintenance.
If a classic General Ledger function or report is not found in the table, then it is not yet available in General Ledger for Windows. You can still access the classic function or report from the Main Menu, using Network Access.
