Progressive Promotions allow you to assign a group of items a markdown schedule to gradually reduce the price of the items in order to sell out. These could be discontinued which will never be bought again, repeatable seasonal items which are being cleared out at the end of the season and will be repurchased when they are back in season, or other scenarios that might apply to your business. An example of a markdown schedule is 10% off first 7 days, 20% off next 10 days, 50% off next 14 days, and so on until a final percent markdown.
To create a Progressive Promotion, in Modify Item Promotions (MIP) you create a Markdown Schedule, and then assign that schedule to a promotion.
Some facts about Progressive Promotions:
You can create an unlimited number of Markdown Schedules, each with a limit of 10 tiers.
A given promotion (also known as a batch) can only have one Markdown Schedule assigned to it.
All items in a Progressive Promotion (batch) are governed by the same markdown schedule, but they begin reducing in price based on when they get added to the batch.
The Promotion Update Report (RUP) recalculates promotion prices for items on Progressive Promotions based on each promotion’s Markdown Schedule and each individual item's Start Date (the Start Date in the promotion file [MIP], NOT the Actual Start Date).
Markdown Schedules are not supported for Dynamic Promotions.
The Markdown field in MIP--which controls whether an item's promotion sales history is included in order point calculations--is separate from Progressive Markdowns. Typically, however, the items in a Progressive Promotion have Markdown set to Yes (no update to sales/promotion period units sold).
