Setting Up Departments

Departments, classes, and finelines allow you to group your inventory items into categories. Departments are the most general grouping, followed by classes and finelines.

You can create your own department coding scheme, use your primary vendor's department codes, or use a combination of both. If you are installing the system and are using a FastStart CD or tape to load inventory, the department codes may be included on the CD/tape and loaded from it.

Department sales and purchases are maintained in a grid. To learn more about working with views and grids, click here.

Click one of the following to take you to the procedure steps:

Setup for Multistore Users

To make setting up departments easier, set up option 2004 "Store specific fields to copy to all stores when Change pressed in MDE" in Options Configuration. Place a checkmark by each of the fields in this list that you would like to keep the same for all stores in Department Maintenance (MDE) when <Change> is pressed (regardless of how security bit 12 is set).

When you press <Change> in MDE,  the system copies the fields you have selected in this option to all stores.
