Electronic Check Conversion: Setup
Use the procedure below to set up your system to use Electronic Check
Conversion (ECC).
Set Up MICR Device
There are three models of MICR devices that work with ECC:
- Epson 6000iii receipt printer. The MICR device
is built into this receipt printer.
- MAG-22523003 is a standalone USB reader by MAGTEC.
- MAG-2533003 is a combined USB reader and credit
card reader by MAGTEC.
If the device has not yet been configured in Device Configuration, do
the following:
- From the Eagle Browser, click the "Utilities"
link on the left side of the browser bar.
- Select "Device Configuration" from
the menu that displays.
- In Device Configuration, highlight the device
"MICR Reader."
- Click Change (F5). The Select Device dialog
box displays.
- Select the appropriate MICR device from the
list, and click OK. From the MICR Reader dialog, click OK again.
- When prompted to test the device, click Yes.
Set Up System Option
The following system option must be enabled on your system.
ID# 1067 Check Conversion on System. This option must be set to Yes
if you have purchased the "Electronic Check Conversion" (ECC)
package.
In Options Configuration, verify that this option is set to Yes. In
the Options Configuration window, click ID, enter 1067, and press Enter.
If the option is set to No, contact Epicor Direct at 800-538-8597.
Set Up Application Options
Follow the steps below to set up the options for ECC in Options Configuration.
- Display
the Options Configuration window.
- Click ID. Using the list below, enter the ID
number of the option, and click OK. Click in the Current Value column,
select the desired setting, and click Change. Repeat this process
for all options in the list. For more information about a particular
option in the list, click on its blue underlined text.
- ID# 1068
Check
Conversion available in POS
Y = the system attempts to process
a transaction paid by check via ECC first. If ECC is not available,
then it attempts check verification/guarantee. ProtoBase must be set
up with a valid processor.
P
(Prompt) = in addition to processing the
check via ECC or verification/guarantee, the system then prompts the
clerk for customer identification. Entering a secondary ID lowers
the possibility of fraud as well as provides the best rate for processing
the transaction.

This text can be used to define ProtoBase-specific information not
defined on the Eagle system.
- ID# 9256 ECC
Terminal ID for ProtoBaseEnter the ProtoBase Softrans numbers that will
be used to process ECC transactions. This option is used in conjunction
with "ECC Terminal ID for ProtoBase" that sets the Terminal
ID
- ID# 9258 ECC
Softrans NumberEnter
the Protobase Softrans numbers that will be used to process ECC transactions.
This option is used in conjunction with “ECC Terminal ID for ProtoBase”
that sets the Terminal ID.
