This topic discusses the standards that Epicor Software Corporation™ has established for the installation of a network of PCs running Eagle for Windows. There are three general categories of standards:
A location with one PC
A location with more than one PC
A location that can utilize "Load-Balancing"
A Network Master is a PC on which you install common files (such as Help Videos, images for QuickFind and Authorized to Charge customers, Catalog images, etc.) and share them with other PCs (referred to as "Network Clients") on the same network.
General rules about the PC(s) that will serve as Network Master:
A high-volume POS station should never be set up as a Master.
You should never have the Master in one location and its Client in another location.
The Master station should not be allowed to go into hibernation mode. Consult your Local Platform Specialist (LPS) for assistance.
On an Ace EagleVision installation, the "gateway PC" should never be set up as a Master.
If you use Total Rental, the Total Rental PC should never be set up as a Master.
At a location with one PC running Eagle for Windows, the PC should be set up as a standalone PC.
At a location with two or more PCs running Eagle for Windows, the Network Master/Client setup must be used. Each master should not exceed having 5 clients running off of it.
At a location requiring multiple Masters, if there are a sufficient number of PCs, the workload should be distributed amongst the Masters. This is also known as "Load-Balancing." The diagram below illustrates load-balancing. You can also refer to the Load-Balancing Chart below the diagram.
