Default PinPad device to debit mode

(ID# 5497) This POS option in Options Configuration determines whether or not your bank card pin pads automatically ask the customer for their pin number during a bank card transaction.

If this option is set to Y, whenever a customer swipes their Credit or Debit card, the pin pad automatically asks them for their pin number. If the customer wants to select "Credit" instead of "Debit," they must press Cancel to see the "Credit" option on the pin pad.

If this option is set to N, whenever a customer swipes their Credit or Debit card, the pin pad asks if they want to pay by credit or debit.

Most businesses set this option to No. That way, the customer can select how they want to pay, without having to go through the extra step of pressing Cancel if they are paying with a credit card.

All bank card processors charge different fees. If you want to find out what you will be charged for debit transactions vs. credit card transactions so you can decide how to set this option, call your processor. If most of your POS transactions are paid by debit card, setting this option to Y will typically benefit you.
