(ID# 5421) Use this POS option in Options Configuration to designate how many seconds of inactivity are required before POS automatically returns the cursor to the Clerk field. You can enter a number between 1 and 9999. This field defaults to 120.
You MUST also set option 340 "Return to Clerk? (Y/N/T )" to T for the POS timeout to work.
Your cursor MUST be in one of the following locations for a POS timeout to occur: 1) in the posting area (SKU field), 2) in the Loyalty Number entry window at the start of a transaction, or 3) in the Customer field (this only works if option 8401 "Timeout for clerk signon applies to Customer header?" is set to Yes).
In POS, if no activity has occurred for the designated number of seconds (or more), then as soon as you press a key or start typing, a message informs you that the timeout has been reached. When you press OK, the cursor returns to the clerk field.
This option also controls the timing out of any of the following three messages if left pending on a clerk's POS Totals screen: "Change Due," "Do you want to print an invoice,?" and "This transaction has been assigned document #." These three messages automatically time out regardless of how the option 340 "Return to Clerk? (Y/N/T )" is set. As long as this option (5421) is set to a number greater than 0, these messages time out and allow the transaction to complete.
