Searching for Security Bits

If you use Terminal-Based Security, use the following procedure to display a grid that shows all the security bits assigned to a user. You can identify which bits are assigned to the user because those bits have "Yes" in the Authorized column. This procedure also explains how to search for specific security bits using the Search field, and displaying a security bit when you know its bit number.

  1. Display the Security Maintenance window.
  2. Select the User, and the Store (if applicable), and press Enter.

The bits included in the users' security display "Yes" in the "Authorized" column. The bits not included in the users' security display "No" in this column.

  1. To search for a security bit, enter a search word(s) in the Search field, and the system searches both the Description and Extended Description for the value you entered. The security bit(s) containing that value display in the grid. Note: Entering multiple words (partial or entire words) in the Search field executes an "and" search. For example, entering SPEC ORDER finds security bits that have a word that begins with spec (ie special or specify) AND also has a word that begins with order. In this example, the search would display an option that contains the words order and specify. Entering SPECIAL ORDER would not include that security bit, since it contains the word specify but not the word special.
  2. To view a security bit when you know its bit number, click ID, enter the bit number, and press Enter.

Clicking Display, Next, or Previous after doing a Search in the Search field, or using the ID button, will display the next user’s settings for that same subset of bits. Click Clear to reset if you want to see the full list of bits (i.e., to clear the search).
