Automatically Issue Gift Cards for Returns Overview

(Gift Card users only)

You can use the Automatic Issue of Gift Cards for Returns feature with any gift card type you currently activate in your store, such as national account gift cards (Ace, True Value, Do it Best Corp., etc.), your own external gift card program, or Epicor's In-Store Gift Card feature.

Automatic Issue of Gift Cards for Returns does not work in Offline POS.

Issuing a gift card (sometimes referred to as a merchandise return card) in lieu of returning cash or a check has become an extremely popular method for handling merchandise returns, particularly when the customer does not have a receipt. This feature automatically issues gift cards for returns based on the parameters you define. For example, you may decide to only issue gift cards when items being returned could not be applied to a prior purchase.

To issue a gift card for a return, POS automatically "sells" a special SKU (flagged in Inventory Maintenance as a "gift card SKU") to the transaction for the total amount of the credit transaction (including tax), thus the transaction total nets out to $0.00. Upon completion of the transaction, the gift card activation window automatically displays, where the clerk activates the gift card.

You may find this feature preferable to issuing Store Vouchers because the process of issuing automatic gift cards is simpler for the clerk, and provides customers with a sturdy return card rather than a slip of paper like the Store Vouchers feature provides.
