Selling and Crediting Core Type Inventory Records in POS

Core type items are posted to POS in much the same manner as non-core type items (i.e., From the POS posting area, enter the inventory number, enter the quantity, select Enter, etc.). What is different about core type items is that they generate two line items in POS, one for the exchange price, the other for the core price. Cores also introduce several additional POS selling codes (see option 5036 “Selling Codes can be entered in Quantity field”) to accomplish core exchange transactions, where the core is turned in for credit at the time of sale and core credit posting.

Selling a Core Type Item Outright (no core is turned in for credit)

  1. From the POS Posting screen, enter the inventory number for the item and the sell quantity.

  2. Click Display to view inventory information. Notice that two prices display, the exchange price labeled “Cust Price,” and the “Core Price.”

  1. Press Enter to post.

Two lines post, the first for the item at exchange price, and the second the core price. The quantity on the core price line represents the quantity of cores that may be turned in for credit against the sale.

Selling a Core Type Item Exchange (the core is turned in for credit at time of purchase)

  1. From the POS Posting screen, enter the inventory number for the item, and in the Quantity field, enter the sell qty.

  2. Click Display to view inventory information. Notice that two prices display, the exchange price labeled “Cust Price,” and the “Core Price.”

  1. In the Quantity field, enter the quantity followed by "E" (the selling code for core exchange). For example, if you are selling a quantity of three, enter 3E.

  2. Press Enter to post the item. Three lines post: t=The item at exchange price, the core price, and a core credit for turning in the core at the time of purchase.

Note: Although a core exchange sale may be posted as two items--the first as a core type item outright sale, and the second a core credit--entering them on the same transaction with Returns Validation requires the use of the core exchange selling code. To validate a core credit posted separately requires a previous outright sale on a completed transaction.

Crediting a Core (i.e., the core is turned in for credit after the outright sale of the core type item)

  1. From the POS Posting screen, enter the inventory number for the item.

  2. In the Quantity field, enter the selling code for a return “-“ or “R,” followed by the quantity of cores being turned in, and then "K" (the selling code for a core).

  3. Press Enter to post the item.

  4. If Returns Validation is enabled, select the desired core item.

A single line posts, a credit item for the core.
