Besides the obvious places like Inventory Maintenance and POS for Windows, the Long SKU feature (also known as Mode 2) is functional in the following features/applications:
Smart Lookup (in POS, Catalog, and Inventory [including Customer SKUs])
POS lookups by manufacture (Control-L) or UPC (Control-U)
Catalog Import (user-defined catalogs), Price Import, and Inventory Import, and Promotion Import support matching to Long SKUs
Price Import and Inventory Import also support matching by Alternate Part Number greater than 14 characters
SKUs imported in Inventory Import, Price Import, and Promotion Import first looks for an exact match to that imported SKU. However, if an exact match is not found, the system will refer to options 2503 or 2505 to determine whether or not it should look for a match using the"‘normalized" value of the imported SKU (the imported value with special characters and/or spaces stripped out). Note: If there is more than one match in any of these applications, the system will NOT display a selection dialog showing each item’s description. This behavior is also true in the RF and Eagle Mobile applications when you do a lookup on SKU.
ODBC
iNet (except in Order Pro, where orders only print the first 14 characters of the SKU)
Bills of Material and Kits (however, Header SKUs are limited to 14 characters or less. The components can have a Long SKU)
Price Checker
Windows RCIN supports Long SKUs
RF Shelf Manager and Receiving, except that only the first 14 characters of the SKU are displayed. Typing in and displaying an item by SKU greater than 14 characters is not supported.
Eagle Mobile supports looking up and displaying a SKU greater than 14 characters
QuickFind supports Long SKUs
The ability to use "Import SKU List" in the Custom SKU List feature of the Inventory Viewer supports Long SKUs
Telecommunications applications: All telecommunications are supported on a Mode 2 (Long SKU) system. Although none of the data exchange formats require a SKU longer than 14 characters, if the incoming SKU maps to a shadow number the system will find it.**
** Note: Normally an SKU that is 14 characters or less will not have a shadow number. But if an SKU that is 14 characters or less is changed with RCIN, and later on that same SKU is re-added to the system, it will be added with a shadow number.
The Long SKU feature (also known as Mode 2) is supported in all applications with the following exceptions:
Although Long SKU is supported in ODBC, it is NOT supported in ReQuest (RQ)
Long SKU is NOT supported in Linebuster (RF POS), True Value LDT, Tally Cross Reference Maintenance (MTL), nor in any third-party imports (PartSmart, Andersen, Total Rental, etc.). ESTU does support Long SKUs.
Bills of Material and Kits - The components can have a Long SKU, but the Header SKUs are limited to 14 characters or less
iNet Orders only print the first 14 characters of the Long SKU
Scanning a barcode representation of a SKU greater than 14 characters is NOT supported in POS nor in RF; you should instead use a barcode representation of the Shadow Number.
On Reports, From/To by SKU is not supported, nor is Print Sequence by SKU
Next Item (NEX) will not search by SKU (to access NEX setup, type NEX in the Launch bar and press Enter). If option 70 "Inventory Key" is set to I (SKU), the system will behave as if it were set to D (Department).
If the Sequence Number field is left blank when a new item is added in Inventory Maintenance, the Sequence Number will default to the first 14 characters of the SKU.
Inventory Notes DO NOT support the ability to have one note assigned to multiple items; only one SKU per note is available. In fact, on a Mode 2 system, Inventory Maintenance does not have a Note Group field on the Notes tab, nor does it have an Ext Desc Group field on the Codes tab.
RF Shelf Manager and Receiving is supported, except that ONLY the first 14 characters of the SKU are displayed. Typing in and displaying an item by SKU greater than 14 characters is NOT supported (Note: these limitations do not exist on Eagle Mobile.)
SKUs imported in Inventory Import, Price Import, and Promotion Import looks for an exact match to that imported SKU. However, if an exact match is not found, the system will refer to options 2503 or 2505 to determine whether or not it should look for a match using the "normalized" value of the imported SKU (the imported value with special characters and/or spaces stripped out). Note: If there is more than one match in any of these applications, the system will NOT display a selection dialog showing each item’s description. This behavior is also true in the RF and Eagle Mobile applications when you do a lookup on SKU.
Auto-assigning of SKUs (option 104 "Next SKU Number" set to Yes) is not supported
The following functions in Network Access are not allowed: BOP, FIL, IAD, IMU, IPC, ISH, IST, LOD, MAP, MCS, MIP, MKR, MPH, MSD, MTL, MUPC, PIP, QPIP, TRAN, MPO, MRV, RP, POS, CPOS, RFPOS, RCIN, and RICU
The ability to "Import SKU List" in the Custom SKU List feature of the Inventory Viewer is not available at this time (will be available on Level 18)
