Special Promotions allow you to set up promotions for particular customers. These promotions are set up in the promotion subsystem just like any other promotion, but they are identified to the system as part of a Special Promotion by entering the promotion's first 1-8 characters in option 8263 "Special Promotion (1) Indicator," or in option 8264 "Special Promotion (2) Indicator." Then, in Customer Maintenance, you specify which customers are eligible for a Special Promotion.
For example, if you identify Special Promotion 1 as SPRING in option 8263, then any promotion that starts with the letters SPRING is considered part of Special Promotion 1, and any customer account that is marked as eligible for Special Promotion 1 will receive any "SPRING" promotion at POS.
In Modify Item Promotions (MIP), enter one or more promotions using the same prefix (first 1-8 characters).
In Options Configuration, set option 8263 "Special Promotion (1) Indicator" so that it matches the prefix you used in MIP. For example, if the promotions you set up in MIP begin with FALL, enter FALL in option 8263.
In Customer Maintenance:
Display a customer whom you want to receive Special Promotion 1.
From the Main tab, click the POS hyperlink in the far right column.
Enter Y in the Allow Special Promo X field (where X is the prefix you entered in option 8263), and click Change.
If you want to set up another Special Promotion, repeat steps 1-3 but this time set up option 8264 "Special Promotion (2) Indicator" in Options Configuration, and enter Y in the second Allow Special Promo X field (where X is the prefix you entered in option 8264) in Customer Maintenance.
