(Eagle OS systems using a gift card program only. This feature does not work on SCO systems, nor does it work in Offline POS.)
If you use Gift Cards through your coop, or if you use In-Store Gift Cards, you can use the Gift Card Giveaway feature if you want to issue a free gift card to customers who reach a designated purchase threshold. This feature applies to Sales, Suspended transactions, fully invoiced Orders, Special Orders, and Estimates. It does not apply to Transfers, Credit Memos or Negative Sales, nor partially invoiced orders.
You can set up five different gift card giveaway thresholds. For example, you could set up a giveaway for customers who spend over $100 so that they receive a $10 gift card, while customers who spend $200 receive a $25 gift card, etc. This feature also supports a percent instead of a specific amount. For example, you could offer 20% of purchase back in a gift card (maximum of $200). With either method, the free gift card is automatically added to the transaction and a trade discount for that same amount is applied to the transaction, so that the subtotal remains the same. When the system applies the trade discount, all existing Eagle "Trade Discount" rules apply; for example, the discount is prorated over "discountable" items only; already discounted items on the transaction will follow the logic you set up in Options Configuration (in the "MIV" options ).
Note: if you choose to use the Gift Card Giveaway feature, you should also use the Returns Validation feature so that if a customer returns an item(s) that helped them earn a free gift card, the system will automatically reduce the amount of the return by the amount of the free gift card the customer received.
Note the following important information about this feature:
The giveaway begins as soon as you complete the setup, and ends if/when you clear the setup function. In other words, currently there is no Begin and End Dates in the setup function.
On saved transactions (Order, Special Order, Service Order, or Estimate), currently the gift card reward is applied when the transaction is invoiced (rather than when the transaction was created) and is based upon the giveaway rules in place at that time.
If the customer has a Trade Discount setup in Customer Maintenance, then they are not eligible for a Gift Card Giveaway. It is assumed that the customer’s Trade Discount will be better than a gift card giveaway, and that you would not want the customer to receive both.
Using the Discount key in totals is not allowed on a transaction that already has a Trade Discount entered due to the gift card giveaway. Instead, the clerk is given the error message “Trade Discount not allowed as transaction is already receiving a gift card giveaway. <OK>”.
In the situation where an immediate terms discount is given in totals, the gift card giveaway is determined based upon the "trade discountable subtotal" prior to any reduction for an immediate terms discount. Thus, if a consumer with a charge account with a terms discount of 1% buys a $1000 TV which entitles them to a $20 gift card ends up paying cash, and the clerk answer Yes to Give immediate terms discount, then they will still receive the $20 gift card since the calculation is done prior to knowing about any immediate terms discount.
