Pharmacy Interface: Tips and Information
Pharmacies are unique in that they have very specific regulations that they must follow. The information below outlines some of the pharmacy information that you need to understand as a pharmacy interface user.
Industry regulations
- A pharmacist must be on site at all times. If one is not on site, the store may be required to close.
- The pharmacy area requires special credentials to enter.
- Pharmacies sell controlled substances that require a signature, and purchases are monitored.
- All prescriptions require at the very least a pickup signature. If a pharmacy is audited and they are found not to have a signature on a pickup, they could lose a significant amount of reimbursement by the government or insurance company.
Pharmacy Interface Tips
- For Synchronized interfaces, if the Pharmacy Listener PC is not running, information will not flow from Eagle to the Pharmacy Management System. The Listener should remain running during store hours.
- Option 69 determines if a password is required to close the listener. The password is OMEGA.
- On rare occasions, you may need to enter a prescription's bar code number manually, such as when a prescription goes out for delivery but is not entered into the Eagle prior to delivery. However, the bar code label typically does not indicate the actual barcode number. To determine the actual barcode number, scan the barcode in word pad or note pad. With this information, you can manually enter the full-length bar code number.
- Audits: If the pharmacy is audited and you need to look up a pick-up signature, QuickRecall provides a copy of the transaction, including the signature. You can recall a prescription by its RX number in the SKU field of POS.
- If Option 460 ('Display' After Barcode Scan?) is set to "D", then Will Call functionality at POS will be disabled.
