Pharmacy users only
Cashiers use the "unattended" method to accept Health Benefit Cards (HBC) at POS, unless they must manually enter a HBC card or verify the HBC Amount, which requires the "attended" method. The unattended method requires that customers select the 'Health" button from the pinpad after swiping their card. This properly identifies the card and sends the appropriate information to the processor. The attended method forces the transaction into the HBC mode if the cashier selects the Health Benefit tender type from the Alternate Tender menu in POS.
Health Benefit cards are "approved only" transactions and cannot be forced through if a declined message is received. If the card is declined, the cashier must take another form of tender.
Health Benefit cards are not allowed in Offline POS.
Health Benefit cards should always be taken as the first form of tender to apply the maximum purchase amount to their Healthcare account
To use debit steering with Health Benefit Cards, the customer must answer “no” to “is the amount correct,” and then swipe the customer’s card again, but answer “yes” this time to “is the amount correct” and then choose Health and finish the sale (this may be confusing to the customer).
In POS, post qualified and non-qualified items to a single transaction.
Total the transaction.
The customer swipes their HBC card and presses the “Health” button on the pinpad.
If you can't use the "unattended" method, use the "attended" method. The cashier presses Alternate Tender (F2), and selects "Health Benefit Card.'" This method should only be used by exception for manually entered cards or verification of Qualified Health Care Amount.
On the pinpad, the customer confirms that the amount being changed to their HBC card is correct.
Once the authorization of HBC card completes, POS returns to the Totals menu with the remaining amount (non-HBC items) displayed.
The customer can swipe a different card (credit/debit/EBT cash/gift card) to pay the balance, or can use another form of tender.
If you need to void the HBC authorization, you can do so at this point or up until the remainder of the transaction is completed and the receipt or invoice prints.
The Sale completes after final payment is taken. The customer receipt prints immediately with line item indicators identifying each SKU that was paid by an HBC card.
