If a Dynamic Promotion method is a percent off or dollars off (rather than "free"), the promotion price is calculated based on the posted price. There is no "best price" logic for this, which means that if you allow a Dynamic Promotion on already-discounted items or items on a regular promotion, the percent off or dollars off is based on the already-discounted price.
Dynamic Promotions respect the setting in the customer's "Allow Regular Promotion Pricing" field in Customer Maintenance.
All Dynamic Promotions are assigned a priority level of 5 when they are created. The Priority setting is important, because an item may be assigned to more than one promotion. Since an item can only be processed as part of one Dynamic Promotion, the Priority tells the Eagle system which promotion to handle first. The lower the number in the Priority field, the higher the priority. If an item is in two active promotions with the same Priority level, Eagle decides which to handle first. An item can only qualify for one item-based Dynamic Promotion. Make sure the promotion you want the consumer to receive has the highest priority (1 being the highest).
You should establish standards for normal promotions that result in the processing order that you want. For instance, long-term promotions cold be assigned priority 7, weekly flyers priority 5, and in-store specials priority 3.
When a Dynamic Promotion includes items which have disparate prices, the system determines which item(s) is the qualifier and which item(s) is the recipient of the promotion in the following manner:
If multiple Dynamic Promotions are active, they are applied in order of the promotion’s priority. If more than one active Dynamic Promotion has the same priority, the order of application is somewhat random. To avoid confusion, use different priorities on Dynamic Promotions that will be active at the same time.
If a specific Dynamic Promotion can be applied more than once on a transaction, the system applies it fully each time, removing the qualifier(s) and recipient(s) from eligibility with each application of that Dynamic Promotion. When the system applies the Dynamic Promotion, the most expensive and still eligible item in the list is the qualifier, and the least expensive and still eligible item in the list is the recipient.
For example, using the Dynamic Promotion pictured here:
This particular "buy 1, get 2 free" promotion can be applied two times, because there are six units of items contained in its item list. Therefore, this Dynamic Promotion will be fully applied as follows:
The first application of this Dynamic Promotion uses one of the $25 items sold (the highest price item) as the qualifier, and then applies the promotion to the two lowest priced units (giving the two $5.00 units free)
The second application of this Dynamic Promotion uses one of the remaining $25 units sold as the qualifier, and then applies the promotion to the 2 lowest priced remaining units (giving the 10.00 item and one of the 25.00 items free)
