Central Order Desk Overview
Central Order Desk is a terminal option that enhances the ability to centrally process orders for any customer on file, and to direct POS to the appropriate store for fulfillment. This capability is intended for use where telephone and electronic orders for multiple stores are placed through a centralized order/call center, or where a telephone system allows calls into stores that are busy to be automatically transferred to other stores or call centers where phones are not busy. These capabilities allow a store chain to leverage their most experienced counter sales employees across their organization and to “load balance” order processing.
Customers may be configured to be assigned to a specific store, to be assigned to the terminal’s lock-in store, or to “Ask,” which generates a POS prompt for store assignment. Thus, the Central Order Desk terminal option may be set to “Yes,” “Ask,” or “No”.
- A terminal configured as “Yes” is in Central Order Desk mode. Orders for customers assigned to a specific store will automatically be assigned to the designated store. If the customer’s Central Order Desk Store is "ASK", POS will prompt for the store. If a customer is set to “Use lock-in store”, POS will prompt for the store with the store defaulted to the lock-in store.
- A terminal configured as “Ask” operates in Central Order Desk mode when the customer is not set to “Use lock-in store”. If the customer’s Central Order Desk Store is "ASK", POS will prompt for the store. If the customers is assigned to a store, POS will prompt for the store with the store defaulted to the customer assigned store.
- A terminal configured as “No” is not in 'Central Order Desk mode'. Therefore, orders will be created in the lock-in store unless the Store is manually changed to another store from the POS big header.
