What is Best Pricing?

Best pricing ensures that your customers are charged the best price to which they are entitled. The system checks all the prices available to a customer (such as retail, promotion [excluding Dynamic Promotions], and quantity break). The system then uses the best price for the customer.

The system follows this path when determining the best price at POS.

If

Then

You manually override the price by clicking Disc (Control-D) or Promo (Control-P), or by typing the price in the Price field

The system uses the price you enter and does not check or compare that price to any other prices.

You do not manually override the price, the system checks if the customer is part of a category pricing plan (in the Category Pricing Plans window)

If the customer is part of a category pricing plan and the item is part of the plan and the Best Price field is Y (in the Category Pricing Plans window), then the system uses the category price.

The customer is not part of a category pricing plan, the system checks for an open quote for the customer

If there is an open quote, and the item is on the open quote, the system uses the open quote price.

The customer does not have an open quote, the system looks at the Price Indicator field on the POS Header Screen

If it is D, G, or M (discount off retail, gross margin, or markup from cost), the system uses the price based on that indicator.

The pricing indicator is not D, G, or M

The system looks at the following and uses the lowest price.

  • retail (if the option "Use Retail Price in Best Pricing?" [ID#430] is set to Y in Options Configuration)

  • the standard sell price for the customer (as indicated in Customer Maintenance)

  • a promotion price (excluding Dynamic Promotions)

  • a quantity break price

  • a category price (if the Best Price field in the Category Pricing Plans window is set to N)
