Use the following procedure to set up SKUs that you can use when placing non-stocked items (items not in Inventory Maintenance) on special orders.
Add a special order department in Department Maintenance to correspond with each of your merchandise departments. For example, your paint department is department 1, your tool department is department 2, etc. You could create department "S1" for special order paint, and department "S2" for special order tools, and so on for your other departments.
Add special order SKUs in Inventory Maintenance, as follows:
Create special order SKUs, keeping the following in mind:
For convenience, you could use the same SKU number as its corresponding department number. Using the previous example, you'd set up SKU S1, S2, etc.
Do not enter any pricing, because the pricing will vary depending on the item being special ordered.
On the Codes tab, set the "Keep Stock Info" and "Keep Prices" fields to N.
