Add Item Images/URLs - One or More Catalogs On System

The following procedure explains how to add item images and/or URLs when you have one or more catalogs on your system. If you don't have a catalog on your system, click here for the "no catalog" procedure.

Adding Item Images

  1. Verify that option 2602 "Catalog 'image set' support for multiple catalogs" is set to "multiple image sets" in Options Configuration.

  2. If desired, set the default catalog for multiple image sets in Maintain Catalog Constants (MTCC).

  3. Open Windows Explorer, and display one of the following directories, depending on whether you use the Stand-Alone or the Network Master/Client method when you install Eagle for Windows:

  4.  (Stand-Alone)  C:\3apps\UserData\CatImages\

  5. (Network Master/Client)  C:\3net\UserData\CatImages\

  1. If you have a vendor catalog, create a folder for its images in the directory from step 3.  Note: If you have more than one vendor catalog, create a folder for each catalog. You MUST use the correct folder name, as per the table below:

Name of Catalog

Folder Name to Use

Ace

ACE

True Value

STC

Do it Best

HWI

Orgill

ORG

Handy

HAN

For example, if you have the Do it Best catalog and have a Network Master installation, create a folder called HWI under the C:\3net\UserData\CatImages directory; if you have the True Value catalog, create a folder called STC under the C:\3net\UserData\CatImages directory. Note: If you have more than one vendor catalog, create a folder for each catalog.

  1. In the folder(s) you just created, create subfolders for each number (1-9) or letter (A-Z) that begins the SKU for which you're adding an image or URL. For example, if you're adding an image or URL for SKU 1234, create a subfolder called 1 (because 1 is the first digit of the SKU); if you're adding an image or URL for SKU ABC, create a subfolder called A (because A is the first digit of the SKU). Depending on how many SKUs you're adding images for, you may have to create many subfolders.

  1. Place the image, and/or create a URL shortcut, in the appropriate subfolder, based on the first digit of the SKU. For example, if the SKU is 1234, place its image and/or create a URL shortcut in folder 1; if the SKU is ABC, place its image and/or URL file in folder A. Note that images must be named xxxxxx.jpg or xxxxxx.gif, and URL shortcuts must be named xxxxxx (xxxxxx = the SKU to which you want to associate the image or URL).

If your SKU numbers contain any of the following special characters \ / * : ? " < > |  the system will interpret these special characters as an underscore (_) when retrieving item images and URLs. Therefore, when naming item images and URLs, you must use an underscore in place of any special characters. For example, for SKU number CM95-1/2X10X12, the name you must use for this item's image or URL is CM95-1_2X10X12 (notice the underscore has replaced the slash (/) because slashes are considered a special character).

  1. In Vendor Maintenance, in the Catalog Image ID field, select the appropriate catalog from the drop-down list, based on the primary vendor that is assigned to that vendor's SKUs in Inventory Maintenance. When the Catalog Image ID field is empty for the primary vendor, or a primary vendor has not been assigned to a SKU in Inventory Maintenance, only the default catalog will be searched for an image.

Image Hierarchy

When using one or more catalog images, images are searched via the following hierarchy:

    1. If the SKU has no primary vendor assigned in Inventory Maintenance, then only the images for the default catalog (as specified in  MTCC) are searched.

    2. If the default catalog is one you created with Catalog Import Tool, only its sub-directory C:\3apps\UserData\CatImages\WT1 (or WT2, WT3, WT4, or WT5) is searched for an image. If no image is found, then no image displays in Inventory Maintenance (or in the Inventory Viewer when displaying an SKU).

    3. If the default catalog is a traditional vendor catalog, first the C:\3apps\UserData\CatImages\xxx directory is searched (where xxx =  ACE, STC, HWI, HAN, or ORG). If the image is NOT found in this directory, the image supplied in the traditional catalog is used. If no image is found in either place, then no image displays in Inventory Maintenance (or in the Inventory Viewer when displaying an SKU).

    1. If the SKU has a primary vendor assigned in Inventory Maintenance:

    2. And the Catalog Image ID field in Vendor Maintenance is not populated for the primary vendor assigned to the SKU, the system treats it as if it has no primary vendor assigned (see #1 above).

    3. And the Catalog Image ID field in Vendor Maintenance is populated for the primary vendor assigned to the SKU:

      • When the Catalog Image ID field contains a code for a user defined catalog (WT1, WT2, WT3, WT4, WT5), only its sub-directory C:\3apps\UserData\CatImages\WT1 (or WT2, WT3, WT4, or WT5) is searched for an image. If no image is found, then no image displays in Inventory Maintenance (or in the Inventory Viewer when displaying an SKU).

      • When the Catalog Image ID field contains a code for a traditional catalog (ACE, STC, HWI, HAN, ORG), first the C:\3apps\UserData\CatImages\xxx directory is searched (xxx = ACE, STC, HWI, HAN, or ORG). If an image is NOT found in this directory, the image supplied in the traditional catalog is used. If no image is found in either place, then no image displays in Inventory Maintenance (or in the Inventory Viewer when displaying an SKU).
