There are several ways to look up items in the Catalog, so you can experiment with a variety of search methods.
If you have trouble finding an item with one method, try another.
Here are a few tips to help you look up items in the Catalog.
Start with a broad category of items (for example, Department, Class, and Fineline). This type of search is called a drill down search. This method is especially good in familiarizing yourself with your vendor’s item organization.
Do not use the plural form of words. Many item descriptions don’t include the plural form of words.
Type the most specific information you can. For example, the item number, which is the most efficient criterion for a search. This narrows the search for the item and may help you to find it faster.
Type in more than one search criteria. For example, type manufacturer and description to further narrow down the search.
If you are not sure of the spelling, or want to account for abbreviations, use a wildcard search.
If you receive a message that says there are no items, try adding a wildcard to the end of the search criteria, or using a couple of different words.
If you find an item on the Item List that is similar to the one you are searching for, try clicking the Vendor or Fineline buttons on the toolbar to get a list of items in the same fineline, or from the same vendor.
