Part Description

To perform a parts lookup based on a part description, do the following:

1. Navigate to the Part Description Search Text field.

   

2. If appropriate, check the Whole Word and the Vehicle/Data Specific Descriptions check boxes.

   • The Whole Word check box limits your search to whole words that are actually in the catalog, If the check box is deselected, the system will search on parts of words. For example, if you enter the word oil, the search results returns words containing coil as well.

   • The Vehicle/Data Specific Descriptions check box limits your results to those that will return results for the selected vehicle. It uses the descriptions set up in your MCLManufacturer Coverage List.

3. Type all or part of a part description search term and press <Enter>.

For example, type exhaust<Enter>.

The system displays a list of part descriptions that contain the word or words that you entered.

It is recommended that you select a vehicle before you use the part description search. Selecting a vehicle first ensures that part descriptions displayed actually apply to the vehicle.  You can select a vehicle using one of these methods:

1. 3. AAIA

   • VIN

   • Year, Make, Model, Engine

3. Select one or more part descriptions.

   To select a part description, do one of the following:

   • Use the arrow keys to navigate to the desired description, press <Spacebar> to select the item.  Repeat for each desired description.
      

   • Type the numbers in front of the description. For example, if you had used the word exhaust as the search term, then you could type <0><2><4> for Exhaust Manifold.  Repeat for each desired description.
      

4. Press <Enter> to confirm the description selection.
