Navigating LaserCat 3 with a Keyboard

Press <Alt>+<Spacebar>, then use the Up or Down arrows to select the action desired

1. Press <Alt>+<Tab>, then press <Tab> until the desired program is selected.

2. Release <Alt> to open the program.

To make selections in the Lookup or the Vehicle Selection windows, use the <Tab> key to navigate to the editable fields, then type the code that represents your selection.

For example, to select a year for a vehicle, you can do one of the following:

1. • Type the last two digits of the year.  For example, type <0><0> for the year 2000.

   • Type all four digits of the year. For example, type <2><0><0><0> for the  year 2000.

To select a part or labor category, do one of the following:

• Type the two digits that represent the desired category.  For example, type <0><1> for Ignition and Engine Filters.
   

• Use the arrow keys to position the highlight on the desired category, then press <Enter>.

The active button or field on a dialog box is outlined in black. In this example, the OK button is active. Pressing <Enter> selects the OK button and closes the dialog box.

 To progress to the next selectable button or field, press <Tab>.  To go back to a previous button or field, press <Shift>+<Tab> until you reach the one you want.

In this example, if you pressed <Tab> four times, you would select the VIN Info button.

You can use the drop-down menus to perform any function that can also be performed with a mouse.

 

To open a drop-down menu, do the following:

1. Press Alt + the highlighted letter in the menu title. For example, press Alt+L to open the Lookup menu.

2. Do one of the following:

   • Use the Up and Down arrows to select an item on the menu.

   • Press the letter that appears with an underline in the selection you want. For example, press N to perform a new lookup.

LaserCat 3 is usually set up with PartExpert as the default catalog type. To perform a new lookup with a different catalog type, do the following:

1. Press <F2>. This is the same as clicking the New button.

The Lookup window opens.

2. Select the catalog lookup you want by pressing  <Alt> + <Underlined letter on tab>.

3. Continue with your lookup as usual.

1. In the Lookup window, press <Tab> once.

The cursor moves from the Year field to the Category field.

2. Select the desired category and group.

The Lookup window displays the Year selection menu.

3. Continue with the vehicle selection as usual.

To enter a new part after an Interchange, lookup, do the following:

1. Press <F2>. This is the same as clicking the New button.

The Lookup window opens with the Interchange tab displayed.

2. Type a new part number and press <Enter>.

Your new lookup displays in the main results window.

 

This is applicable to PartExpert, LaborExpert, TireExpert or ServicePlus.

To perform a lookup with the same vehicle, but with a different category or group, do the following:

1. Press <F3>. This is the same as clicking the Change button.)

The Lookup window opens.

2. Select the desired category and group.

The Category menu will default to previous setting.

You can change from one catalog type to another. For example, you can perform one lookup in PartExpert  but switch to LaborExpert or TireExpert. This procedure is applicable to PartExpert, LaborExpert, TireExpert or ServicePlus.

To use the same vehicle but change the catalog type, do the following:

1. Press <F3>. This is the same as clicking the Change button.)

The Lookup window opens.

2. Select the catalog lookup you want by pressing  <Alt> + <Underlined letter on tab>.

3. Continue with your lookup as usual.

To perform a lookup with the same category or group, but with a different vehicle, do the following:

1. Press <F7>. (This is the same as using the Change button.)

The   Vehicle Selection dialog box opens.

2. Select the desired year, make, model or engine.

Menus default to previous settings if they are valid for the changed vehicle.

If you are changing a lookup using the same vehicle, but select the wrong category or group, do the following:

1. In the Lookup window, press <Esc>.

The window closes.

2. Press <F3>.

The Lookup window reopens.

3. Select the category and group as desired.

If you are changing a lookup using the same category, but select the wrong vehicle, do the following:

1. In the Vehicle Selection window, press <Esc>.

The window closes.

2. Press <F7>.

The Vehicle Selection window reopens.

3. Select the year, make, model and engine as desired.
