Assigning Terminal-Based Security to a User

This procedure describes the process of setting up Terminal-Based security for a "user". A user can refer to a specific employee, or it can simply refer to a group of security capabilities. The procedure below is useful if you are just beginning to set up security. However, if you have already set up other users with security, you may find it easier to copy security from one user to another.

Assigning Security to a User

  1. Display the Security Maintenance window.

  2. In the Terminal box, select the appropriate terminal number, or select "All" to add the security at all terminals except terminal 1 (you'll have to add terminal 1 security separately).

Epicor recommends that you assign security in Terminal 1 first. Then, in step 8, you can copy the security to other terminals. If you select "All" in the Terminal box, be aware that the user's security will be created for all terminals EXCEPT terminal 1.

  1. In the Store box, leave the default of 1 if you have only one store.

Multistore: Enter the store at which you want the user to have access, or enter ALL if you want the user to have access at all stores.   If you select ALL, then you should have also selected ALL in the Store field when you added the user record for this user.

  2. In the User box, enter the user's name or select one from the drop-down list (you may select ALL users if you're adding the same bit(s) to all users).

The drop-down list only displays users that have already been set up in the Add a User window.

  1. Press Display.

  2. Select the capabilities you want to give the user(s) by doing one of the following:

If you do not see Epicor-supplied templates in the drop-down list when you attempt to select one, you must first add a user using the template name. For example, if you want to use the "POSCLERK" template but it does not display in the drop-down list, add a user called POSCLERK. Once you have done this, the template will display in the drop-down list and you can then assign the template to the appropriate users.

  1. Click Change.

  2. If you need to copy the user's security to another terminal (if you didn't enter ALL in the Terminal box), click here to take you to the procedure steps.

  3. Multistore: If you need to copy the user's security to another store (if you didn't enter ALL in the Store box), click here to take you to the procedure steps.

  4. If you haven't already, you should now add a user record to associate with the security you just added.
